CNBC used to be referred to as “Asia Business News” in the Asian region. One of the times I appeared on their new media program, Dot.Com, I was asked to quickly create a homepage for the host, Sydnie Kohara, on-air to demonstrate how simple it is to deploy various strategies in a site if you are focused on your objective. I outlined the important principles of consistent navigation, clear branding, strong content, interactive components, universal availability to primary areas (i.e. no specific platform, browser or plug-in mandatories) and keeping everything well-organized. I also went over at what point doing it yourself is no longer an option and employing a strategic marketing professional is crucial.

This page is the result of what I did for that program. I quickly assembled elements of Ms. Kohara’s career (company logos and other images) by doing Web searches based on the background she outlined. I then discovered her style and treated a photo of her in PhotoShop - as well as the rest of the page design - to reflect her character and not my own ego. For a final touch I animated the Dot.Com logo to bring out a little personality.

Remember, I only had a few minutes to design and produce the page, all on-air. Pretty stressful!
