After the success of the Christmas E-Greeting Card project
we put on the Coca-Cola Festive Card Web site, we created this
permanent e-card mechanism. Word-of-mouth, viral marketing is the undisputed leader for getting notice
out about a brand or online activity. Providing something unique a user can appreciate doesnt hurt
either, especially with a brand like Coca-Cola which has developed a huge following behind it of fans
and collectors. Using Shockwave Flash, a user is presented with an animated story that has them discovering a Coke bottle on a deserted island. They scribe a note to a friend, put it in the bottle and cast it into the ocean. The recipient is alerted via email that their friend is trying to contact them and is given a Web address and special code. Upon entering their unique i.d. they see the animated story of the bottle bobbing up and down in the ocean, a hand grabbing it and the note being unfolded. They read the message and have the opportunity to send one back or to someone else. Meanwhile, since theyre on the site, they might take the opportunity to see what else Coca-Cola has to offer them in their local market.
