To celebrate Singapore’s Day of Independence, I recommended to Compaq that they take the opportunity to emphasize the fact Compaq’s regional headquarters has been in Singapore for a very long time. As Singapore prospers so does Compaq and vice-versa.

To pay tribute to this, I designed a ‘Look How Far We’ve Come Together’ type of interactive show using Shockwave Flash. The trip takes the user through several decades of modernization of the nation using very localized scenery, language and inferences.

The user plays the part of a guy who is dressed in the spirit of the decade he is travelling through. As he touches, via the user’s control, different objects, they become updated to the, then, 90’s version. We move from the 50’s through the 80’s working together to bring about great change in the country.

Of course there is plenty of humor through the animations, sounds and background music to prevent this from looking like some kind of government or corporate propaganda.

It proved to be popular enough amongst the users and the client that we were asked by the Malaysian country manager to design one for their National Day as well.

The site was a Finalist in the 1999 4A’s Creative Circle Awards.
