When Nokia launched its new core phone model, the Nokia 6110, the last quarter of 1997, we
wanted to garner a lot of excitement about it. It had many new features, such as a profiling
section, built-in games, multi-language capabilities, interesting color covered effects and superior clarity.
To do this I built it up like an exciting new movie premiere. I did it in a “phone
noir” style, so to speak. Using Shockwave Flash, it starts out with the phone flipping through space like the
monolith in 2001 (even using a midi version of the music) then settling down with the
view pulling back. Fingers easily pluck it up to demonstrate its light and convenient size before
we launched into a credentials explanation in the style of movie previews from the ’50s.
Of course it’s completed with credits and a surprise ending.
It proved successful enough to be our most popular section on the Web site for the first few
months it was up and Nokia incorporated it into their staff/dealer training program.
This product demo won a Silver Medal in the Association of Accredited Advertising
Agents [the 4As] 1998 “Creative Circle Awards”. The judges included producers
from Yahoo! and
C|NET.
