I wrote and, with the help of my Art Director, came up with the creative executions for
all of the banners below. They were used as a campaign to promote Visas Shopping Guide
which is located on Yahoo!s server. We had to tie the look of the banners to a visual treatment that Visas ad agency, Saatchi&Saatchi, were using in print ads. So we drew the woodcut-styled cartoons on our own to match the copy, rather than trying to source clip art. I felt, given the limitations of both the stylization and the constraints of Yahoo!s banner sizes (under 11k, no looping, less than 4 seconds of animation, etc.) that the concept should be led by strong copy. I researched the key points of the Visa brand to tie it into the convenience of an accredited shopping guide. I had other ideas such as Ready, SET, Shop! to promote the secure electronic transaction protocol Visa helped to develop, but the client felt the Asia Pacific market was perhaps not ready yet to understand this technology. Therefore I kept each message simple, yet key for the consumer to understand that Visa is on the Web and therefore you will be safe in using their recommended merchants.
