This site is the home of my current company, Expanded Media Asia (also known as “XM Asia”). It is the new media agency formerly known as Bates Interactive Asia. We were still very much a part of Bates Advertising Worldwide, but the name change in September of 1997 was thought wise. In other words, it freed us up to do work for other advertising agencies and their clients without the stigma of having a competitive agency’s name attached. In March 2000 we had our name changed again to CCG.XM to represent our global launch from our parent corporation, the Cordiant Communications Group (which also owns Bates - now a separate network).

We used to handle all of the new media business for Bates Asia as well as go after our own business. The Web site is obviously quite important to demonstrate how we work and think. Unfortunately we haven’t had much time to concentrate on it - for if we did, we wouldn’t be giving our clients our full attention.

The idea of the site was to allow users to tramp around in a comfortable environment that played upon the ideas people might have of tropical ol’ Southeast Asia (we’re based in the island nation of Singapore). So the “XM Beach Bar” was born - resembling a colonial-style club. We have the lobby, where one might gaze upon the main staff pictures - clicking to see each member’s personal dossier (after all, in our business the people are the most important aspect); the library, where they can read articles & speeches we’ve written, press releases we’ve sent out or articles written about us; the gallery which showcases our clients; the trophy room to scope out our awards and, of course, the beach bar itself where they may converse with others all over Asia.
