The screensaver is good for the calendar year of 1998 so if you download it, you will need to set your system clock back to 1998 in order for it to operate. Every day it shows a different sporting fact that happened on a particular day in history. I proposed this in order to get users excited and interested in following sports beyond a current season. In Asia and the Near East (the markets covered), the populations, previously, weren’t very interested in past events as their lifestyles only allowed for concerning themselves with the present and the immediate future. Now that there is more affluence and conveniences - such as cable networks and the Internet - available, we wanted to promote true fan values as exist in North/South America and Europe. These facts would serve to educate the viewer that history and statistics can be very exciting and interesting to follow. This would help to promote viewership of sporting events on-air.

The screensaver also was useful by showing the current date and time and every 20 seconds or so, the sporting highlights of the current month for all the channels so the viewer may be reminded not to miss an upcoming event. The visuals and colors change randomly each time the screen finishes displaying the highlights to keep it refreshing.

We may be producing two versions for the Latin American market through ESPN International for 1999 - Spanish and Portuguese.

This screensaver won a Bronze Medal in the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents [the 4As] 1998 “Creative Circle Awards”. The judges included producers from Yahoo! and C|NET.
