The ESPN STAR Sports corporate Web site is undergoing an evolution into a fully databased,
dynamic, targeted consumer site with live sports scores, editorials, online games, merchandise for sale,
chat systems, etc. which will generate its own revenue-stream while pushing people back into
the on-air shows, but for now its key features revolve around real-time schedules for all
five channels (ESPN Asia, ESPN India, ESPN Taiwan, STAR Sports North and STAR Sports South),
schedule changes, monthly sports highlights, a discussion forum, press releases and other
corporate info as well as a downloadable sports facts calendar
screensaver. The large, quick-loading (20k and under) front visual changes randomly each time the main page is loaded to keep things nice and dynamic while promoting a special sporting event. Clicking on the accompanying title will take the user to details about the highlight featured. A user can view the program schedules by a sports category, the current month or the next one, by a particular week or day of the month. All of that is controlled automatically by a JavaScript I designed so the user doesnt have to go through page after page to get their specific needs - and allows them to change their mind instantly. Then the user can decide whether they wish to view their schedule in a line format or a calendar grid. The iterations are numerous and the system works very smoothly for the varied audience with a plethora of system requirements. This corporate site won a Silver Medal in the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents [the 4As] 1998 Creative Circle Awards. The judges included producers from Yahoo! and C|NET.
